About Repertree

Building better chess opening preparation

Why "Repertree"?

The name Repertree is a blend of two words: repertoire and tree.

A chess opening repertoire is your personal collection of prepared moves and variations. But we realized that repertoires aren't just lists - they're branching trees of possibilities, where each move opens up new paths and variations.

Our core visualization shows your openings as an actual tree structure, making it easy to see how variations branch, where your preparation is deep, and where gaps exist. So we combined the words - and Repertree was born.

Our Mission

We built Repertree to be the best tool for 2 things:

  1. Preparing and managing repertoires - whether that be for prep against a specific player, a specific opening, or the entire gamut of possibilities for white or black.
  2. Community-driven learning - a place to share favorite opening tactics, lines, and learn from each other. We do this by allowing you to publish your repertrees, and let others learn and drill on them.

Our platform combines the power of master AND peer game databases, advanced engine analysis, and proven learning techniques like spaced repetition to help you truly master your openings - not just memorize them. We use a managed spaced repetition algorithm to help you hone your knowledge of your repertrees. We are constantly developing new modes, tools, and ways to learn, train, or manage your repertrees.

What Makes Repertree Different

Our Visualization Tools

Unlike flat move lists, Repertree allows you to visualizes your openings in a myriad of ways, both in the explorer's Repertree viewer panel's view modes, as well as in the dedicated Visualizations tab. Currently, you can view your repertree as an intuitive branching tree (Hey thats where we got the name!). See every variation and spot gaps in your preperation coverage at a glance.

Intuitive Peer & Master Game Stats UI

Our explorer allows you to see the most commmon moves from your rating level as well as master games. Use the peer data to predict your opponent's mistakes and prepare how to punish them. And use master data to make the best decision for your own moves, as well as our highly configurable engine analysis.

Multiple Learning & Training Modes

Our training system uses spaced repetition and multiple practice modes to ensure moves stick in your memory. Learn new lines, drill familiar ones, or test yourself under pressure.

Community & Creators

We are striving to build out our library of creator and official Repertrees for you! Learn from repertrees built by chess coaches and content creators. Also, share your own creations with the community or keep them private - your choice.

Built by Chess Players

Repertree was created by 3 chess enthusiasts who were not quite satisfied with existing tools. We found ourselves constantly flipping between them, and wanted a tool to do it all in one place, for the price of one!

We're constantly improving based on feedback from our community. Have ideas for new features? Found a bug? We'd love to hear from you.
